Alan Osborne
Alan Osborne is a widely recognized sculptor whose large and mid-sized bronzes grace many of Sacramento’s public spaces. Alan’s work also includes recent monotypes and new enamels on copper that demonstrate his mastery of expressionistic color and form.
Alan Osborne ’s fascination with art began with enamels when, as a young schoolboy, he discovered the alchemic process that eventually led to his lifelong passion for bronze. He attended Seattle University on a full scholarship and recognized the potential for bronze as a medium for direct expression beyond sculptural replication. And, Alan has excelled in this use of the medium for abstract expression.
Alan Osborne applies the same passion and vision to his
enamels – a process that provides an immediate opportunity to create color-on-metal in bold and exciting abstract images.
His work has been shown in scores of prestigious venues and he has received numerous commissions including corporate installations in Japan and throughout the United States. Alan’s monumental bronzes grace institutions such as St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco, the Oakland Museum of Art, the City of San Jose, and the government building complex of the government of Samoa.
Alan Osborne’s dedication to the art of bronze is evidenced by his ownership of the Art Foundry and Gallery – one of Northern California’s premier bronze foundries where scores of accomplished artists entrust their work to Alan’s skilled foundry staff. He passes along the ancient art of bronze by teaching popular classes at the foundry and appearing as a guest lecturer throughout the region.
