Bronze Casting Classes
The Art Foundry offers courses in bronze casting throughout the year. Students come from all walks of life and age groups. The appeal of the ancient art of bronze is timeless and many first-time students become avid bronze artists.
The course provides an introduction to the art, techniques and practices of bronze casting. Students will create at least one bronze sculpture. The classes are held at the foundry and give students a real hands-on experience in a professional setting. They will work directly from wax to create an image that will be cast in bronze. But the experience does not stop there. Students are invited to do the “finishing” work on their pieces – discovering the many talents and steps required to complete the bronze process.
The class is very informal and non-traditional. Foundry owner Alan Osborne teaches the class with good humor and one-on-one guidance. Other experienced foundry staff also assist students.
By the end of the course, students will be able to conceive and execute an idea directly in wax, understand the general background of bronze casting, patina and techniques of bronze.
Course fee: $300
Materials cost: $100 (includes patina, wax, brushes, shell)
The additional cost of bronze used will be calculated by weight. Students may use some foundry tools but many like to purchase their own small tools for working the wax.
Class size will be limited to 15 students, so early registration is recommended. Seats may be reserved by advance payment of course and material fee on a first come, first served basis. Costs may be paid by credit card or check.
